Classic Television Series

We never wanted to miss a single episode of these. Although dated in some ways, in others they are surprisingly fresh.

Civilization: A Personal View by Kenneth Clark. 13 episodes

James Burke: Connections  1978. 17 episodes. This is an entertaining and imaginative look at the history of science and invention by a historian of science. Very popular in its time and followed by a book of that title.

The Ascent of Man  1972. 13 episodes. Mathematician and biologist Jacob Bronowski explores the evolution of man from the dawn of the human to civilization. Another landmark series. If you have Netflix, you can compare this with Brian Swimme's updated Journey of the Universe, which includes our knowledge of the universe story as part of our own history.
